A few weeks ago, we heard that Rogers was lower its data rates to a more, you know, reasonable level. This is on the heels of rival Canadian wireless carriers, namely Bell Mobility, offering substantially better rates for specific phones. Then we heard a birdie mention something about an unlimited data plan on Rogers, which is kind of strange, considering the costs of data just a few months ago. So it makes sense now that Rogers is rumored to be bringing the BlackBerry Pearl on board.
It’ll be the 8110, basically what you’re going to get out of the 8120 in the U.S. Yes, it has a GPS receiver, which seems to be all the hype. And you’ll get all the standards: Bluetooth, microSD, on-board memory — we’ve been over this before with this generation of the Pearl.
However, it differs from the rest of the new Pearls in one area: Price. No, that $249.99 tag isn’t unreasonable. But the three year contract requirement is not common in the U.S. Of course, you can opt for a lesser contract with Rogers, but you’ll end up paying more for the phone.
So what’ll it be? Price or commitment? Me? I’d take the one-time cost and a lesser commitment.
