A few weeks ago, we heard that Rogers was lower its data rates to a more, you know, reasonable level. This is on the heels of rival Canadian wireless carriers, namely Bell Mobility, offering substantially better rates for specific phones. Then we heard a birdie mention something about an unlimited data plan on Rogers, which is kind of strange, considering the costs of data just a few months ago. So it makes sense now that Rogers is rumored to be bringing the BlackBerry Pearl on board.
It’ll be the 8110, basically what you’re going to get out of the 8120 in the U.S. Yes, it has a GPS receiver, which seems to be all the hype. And you’ll get all the standards: Bluetooth, microSD, on-board memory — we’ve been over this before with this generation of the Pearl.
However, it differs from the rest of the new Pearls in one area: Price. No, that $249.99 tag isn’t unreasonable. But the three year contract requirement is not common in the U.S. Of course, you can opt for a lesser contract with Rogers, but you’ll end up paying more for the phone.
So what’ll it be? Price or commitment? Me? I’d take the one-time cost and a lesser commitment.

I think it should be pointed out that those plans announced for Rogers, were NOT BlackBerry data plans, they were for wireless PC cards and to extend upon Rogers getting the 8110, they will also be getting the Red/Crimson 8310, Dealers and reps have already recieved their demo models and the 2 (8110 and 8310) are expected to be avail for ordering within 2 weeks if not sooner.
I’m assuming that you are talking about the Pearl “2″ as Rogers has had the Pearl 8100 now for over a year. I have heard that there will lower data plans for BBs this Spring. Another note, T-Mobile may be coming to Canada. They are in talks at the moment with Communication Canada and Industry Canada. They will be another GSM/GPRS provider, which is sure to start a rate war between Rogers and them…..all good for BB users!
