Alltel can’t afford to fall behind national carriers Verizon and Sprint. So when Research In Motion announced the CDMA Pearl, you figured Alltel would jump in at some point. Well, this morning they announced that they have, and that they’ll make the device available for the holiday season.
“The BlackBerry Pearl 8130 will be a great addition to our smartphone line up, allowing our customers to stay connected, productive and entertained while on the go,” said Brian Ullem, director of device strategy for Alltel Wireless. “This new BlackBerry Pearl 8130 blends multimedia functionality with the BlackBerry email platform to create a smartphone that exceeds expectations.”
No word on exactly when it will be available. Pity it won’t be ready by Black Friday, when the device will be launched by Sprint. It was available last week through Verizon.
The cost is pretty standard: $149.99 after $100 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract.
