Three cheers for the BlackBerry Bold browser!

Hip hip, hooray! Okay, so maybe the outlook isn’t all smiles and sunshine. But hey, when you’ve been used to the current BlackBerry browser, the Bold seems like Firefox to the old AOL browser. Boy Genius Report walks us through the browser, and shows us its good points and shortcomings. Of course, they also compare it to the iPhone browser, which is certainly better at this point. But, once again, I’m happy to see even marginal improvements in the BlackBerry browser…and these improvements are certainly more than marginal.

Back at WES, in or first podcast from the convention, I fawned over the new browser. No longer were we stuck with half-baked mobile sites, and otherwise jumbled text. No, the Bold features a real browser, with websites loading as they would on your desktop browser. Pretty freakin’ sweet, right?

Yeah, it has its bugs. That’s expected. After all, they’re trying to cram the entire Web onto a screen for which it was not intended. Still, this should make page navigation a ton easier. And prettier.

The Bold has problems with rendering some sites. BGR found a few problems with viewing information on eBay and CNET. Presumably, these aren’t the only two sites with such issues. Other sites, such as The New York Times, have been optimized for BlackBerry, and will still display in that mode, even though the Bold has the new browser. So, unlike the iPhone, you won’t get the full front page treatment.

The good news is that this is a software issue, and we could see many of these problems resolved in the near future. And, since AT&T likely won’t be seeing the Bold before a month from now, maybe this will all be worked out before it hits shelves in the U.S.
