My thought is that a good defense lawyer might get phone GPS records thrown out? Since it only works outdoors, and when in line of sight of satellite, there would be huge time gaps of no GPS track.

And if you're going to be paranoid about your phone GPS track, be paranoid about how much GPS location history your car (or portable) nav system maintains! Then again, the flipside is couldn't I use the GPS track history to prove I was NOT where "the man" says I was? And wouldn't some smart prosecutor likely get THAT thrown out too?

You know, this all sounds like the precursor to one of those "dumb crook' stories. Some day we'll read a article about some schlep who cased a bank for several weeks and then robbed it, with his GPS track from his phone used to convict him.

The personal privacy "concern" is the justification Verizon uses to block us from using 3rd party GPS software. Does that mean Verizon isn't keeping any track history records on those who DO pay the $10/month extra for VZNav? Hmmmm Verizon??? Bullshit. Stop disabling OUR hardware so YOU can make more money off us, and let US worry about the GPS apps we CHOOSE to install and use and allow to access our GPS location! Blackberry OS warns and requires user validation prior to any app getting access to GPS location. That's enough security Verizon.

I get the personal privacy concerns, but really, aren't the only ones who would be concerned about someone getting hold of their track persons who were somewhere or doing something they shouldn't have been in the first place???
