Back in April my old samsung shattered in a tragic stair incident. I walked into the store and talked with a store associate. In excitement that I was getting a Storm they definitely wanted my business. My upgrade is suppose to happen this month (3 months difference). They told me to call customer service to see what can be done which I did. It led to the store manager only having the "ability" to approve me. What eventually happened they let me upgrade, and extended my contract a few months. So instead of my contract ending in august in two years it ends in November. The Storm was a smooth segway into RIMM country. Plus you do have a 30 day trial period as noted above.

I do regret upgrading so early, I wish I waited to get the Storm 2 because my campus is filled with Wireless.

Last December I decided I needed the Storm so i just added a line and got it fairly cheap, the flip side is it costs me $10 a month or $120 a year but when my contract expires I can drop the added line, which is cheaper then forking out the dough to cancel a line which is $260

This is complicated by the new BOGO offer. Not considering that, if I were you, I would get a Tour now. is it Verizon's web site telling you your aren't eligible until November or you just think that?

Hmmmm... I would wait for the upgrade and save myself some hard earned $$$. I waited with my 8320 for about a year. It sucked to see my friends touting around the slick shiny black Bold or Storm and comparing it with my outdated looking Curve but if I'm being really honest with myself the 8320 really is enough for all my needs. The only real issue at hand was my ego, I wanna be cool and didn't want to be left behind.

I waited almost 9 months with an available upgrade from my Sprint 8830 until the Tour came out, so I was in the reverse of your position. In general, I would wait until an upgrade came up, because who knows, by that time a new Blackberry might just be hitting the shelves.

I just upgraded to the Tour - Love it! My upgrade wasn't available till October but my husband was eligible so I took his upgrade. Nov isn't long to wait but I'd see about the early upgrade!

Hi!
To answer the first question
"do I try to pull a few strings with my Verizon dealer and see if an early upgrade is possible?"
Absolutely. You pay those bastards enough money and you are signing another contract, tell them you want an early upgrade. And where you like the mechanical keyboard, F*CK the storm. haha The thrill of new and improved is in the eye of the beholder. (I personally am not a touch screen fan.)

I am a frugal individual, so full price is not a word that I see often. My first blackberry I purchased on eBay for $100, it was the pearl and I have upgraded 2ce. I now have the tour and love it.

Since you already have the thought on waiting until November, wait it out and get the storm 2. If you get it and hate it.... you have 30 days to trade it back in for a new phone. Then u can get another phone, you know, that 30 day test drive. I just did it with the curve and then got the tour when it launched.

Good luck, be tough with the verizon sales person, tell them how long you have been a customer, your bills have been on time, ur a VIP customer etc. and if you cant get through to the sales person ask to speak to a manager. Oh yeah, and CALL, the people in the stores have way less power than the people over the phone. (I have been down this road before haha)
Good Luck Hun!

A few years ago I had an LG (model similar to a RAZR) with Verizon. I soon decided that, because of my business, I really needed a PDA of some kind. I believe I was in the middle of my contract and no discounts were available. So I paid the full price for a BlackBerry Pearl. I just couldn't wait.

But then when I decided that I needed a true QWERTY keyboard, I did wait until my contract was up so I could receive a discount on a new BlackBerry model. I now have the Curve 8330 and am very happy with it, though I do wish Verizon would offer a newer model number.

So it really depends on the situation... and how impatient I am!

Ran into the exact same problem, it was between the BB Curve or BB Bold and weighing the cons and pros of the phone was nearly impossible because they are different by a couple of distinguished feature ended up going with BOLD (LOVE IT) but I know the ONYX is coming so I hoodwinked my mom by letting me use her upgrade and if another BB should come out that I just have to have I'll use my upgrade and get! :)

I have the same situation, but my upgrade isn't until next July! :( In your case, November isn't too long to wait, unless an early upgrade doesn't cost you anything.

Of course, I have Sprint so my choices are to wait til next July and get whatever is new then (which may be nothing but the Tour still!) or pay full price now. I could also use a $75 discount with the one-year agreement. Ultimately, I think I'd rather not waste my upgrade on a phone that, while great, is a fairly minor upgrade to the 8330 (as far as I can tell). If the Tour is released with WiFi, that may change things. :)
