Its not the device, its the rude operators. Sans proof an electronic device is being used for the purpose of the meeting (notes, reference, etc.), I think all devices (including laptops) should be banned from meetings. Or why is the person attending the meeting in the first place? Maybe if people stop coming due to rules like this, those holding boring meetings will get the hint and either spice up their meetings or call them less frequently!

Actually, our Marketing group has banned the use of devices in meetings, and my own Director here in IT once challenged me about what I was doing on my bb while he was talking! I sheepishly replied, "Sorry, watching for an important email."

But what if you actually use your blackberry during the meeting? I use mine instead of writing down notes on paper. Its just as fast and my information is saved to my computer so that i can recover it later. Yeah, I'm a crackberry addict but i try to sue my addiction for all the right reasons!
