AT&T changing your BlackBerry e-mail address

We suppose this is a change that makes sense: your mycingular.blackberry.net e-mail address will be changed to an att.backberry.net one starting in October. This change actually might be a little late. AT&T completed its takeover of Cingular earlier this year, with the Cingular moniker being dropped completely by May. We wonder why things weren’t changed back then, because we see a slight — though probably rare — problem that could crop up.
Now, if you signed up for an AT&T BlackBerry since June, you got an att.blackberry.net address. Well, what if your name was a dupe of a mycingular address?
If this was a normal company, we’d have faith that they’d have no interserver duplications, as to avoid this very situation. However, this is AT&T, and we have little faith in their business dealings.
Your mycingular account will continue to forward messages to your att account through March 1, 2008, so all you forgetful folks can rest easy temporarily. And yes, all of your contacts and e-mails and all that important information will be accessible from your att account. So we figure hey, maybe AT&T really got it right this time.
But we want to hear from you. We’ll post the question again in October: Are you having any problems with the switchover? If so, we’d expect a lot of angry John Smiths.
