While the mainstream media gushes over the CDMA BlackBerry Pearl (the best coverage, as we see it, is over at RIMarkable), it appears that BlackBerry users are experiencing yet another outage. Users in Washington, D.C. and New York are reportedly receiving “blackberry data connection refused” messages when checking their e-mail. Now, this was first reported at around 10:30 this morning, so it’s conceivable that it’s fixed by now (it’s roughly four hours later).
There is only one comment on the Blogging Stocks post, though it explained that an the commenter’s AT&T BlackBerry in Washington was down, but back up and running by 9:30. There were no other responses, so it’s tough to gauge how widespread this outage really was. However, looking at popular blog Engadged Mobile and their lack of responses to the same issue, it appears that this was isolated and short.
It does give one pause to wonder, though, just what has caused these recent outages. None have been too widespread and haven’t lasted too long, but that they’ve happened is troubling. Are people finally breaking RIM security? Is there a problem with the volume of BB users? We’re not sure. But we’d sure as hell like to hear some real answers from RIM. People depend on their devices, and the least they could do is be forthcoming.
