Is your BlackBerry LED constantly blinking, to the point it’s annoying the crap out of you? Don’t know how to stop it? While seasoned BlackBerry vets know which light means what, not everyone does. Once you do know, though, you’ll find it easier to figure out why the thing is blinking and how to make the bloody thing stop. There are four colors: red, yellow, green, blue. Here’s what they mean.
The red LED means you have a new message. Awesome. You are popular. You can change the LED indicator settings by going into Profiles, Advanced, clicking on the profile name, and then clicking on the message type. You can set the LED next to Repeat Notification.
The yellow LED means your BlackBerry is out of juice and needs a charge. The most efficient way is to plug it into your wall charger. The one that comes with the Berry works best. I tried charging mine once with my Jabra bluetooth charger, and it took forever. Same thing as when I plug it into my computer. It charges, but slowly.
The green LED is annoying because it’s basically on all the time unless you do something about it. If you are within cell coverage, the green LED will flash. Sorry, I don’t need to know I’m in coverage. I assume I’m in coverage unless something doesn’t work. In which case I look at my bars and determine if I’m out of range or I’m in need of a battery pull. You can turn this off by going to Options, Screen/Keyboard, and setting the LED Coverage Indicator to Off.
Finally, the blue LED indicates that you have a Bluetooth paired to the device. This is usually done intentionally, by turning a pre-paired device on while in range of your BlackBerry. You can turn off the Bluetooth radio by going to Manage Connections and unchecking the proper box. You can also turn off Bluetooth by turning off the headset.
