To be clear though the data plan is important for BBM messaging and Email/ Web Browsing.  If you want to do any of those things you will need the Blackberry data plan specifically.

Text messages do not fall into that category.</description>

		<description>I already have a plan with my carrier. It has a sim and I have text ability with this plan for my cell phone. Will an unlocked BB be able to send texts without having to switch to their BB data plan? They told me I needed to get the Data plan in order to text?</description>
