@ Pat

I'm sorry Pat, but donating a $600 smartphone/PDA to be used simply for dialing 911 is a complete and utter waste, and likely a theft magnet - especially considering the user. The cause is fantastic, but there are tens of thousands of dumbphones lying around that should be used instead.

Me, I would use eBay to research history of units sold (yes, eBay makes it easy to do), and then offer it on Craig's List. Immediate cash in hand and no transaction fees taking away your minimal already proceeds. You get a wider audience on eBay but also are competing against more supply and have fees both from eBay itself AND whoever handles the payment (PayPal, etc.). If you don't mind dealing in person, you CAN do better. If you're not comfortable with someone coming to your home, meet at a McDonald's or some other public place.

AND BY ALL MEANS, MAKE SURE YOU DO A PROPER DEVICE WIPE BEFORE SELLING!!!

instead of selling it on ebay, donate it to a Women's Abuse Shelter. Bridges to a New Day in Palos Heights, IL is one close to me. the shelter runs a program where the phone is re-rogrammed so that it dials 911 in the event of an emergency and is used by the woman while staying at the shelter & getting her life back together. tax deductible also.
