Have you ever been in this scenario? You’re on the road and you need to verify something that you sent in an email from your BlackBerry. Well, the scenario pretty much ends there, because the device doesn’t save your sent emails. If you send an SMS/MMS, your Berry will deposit a copy in your Sent SMS or Sent MMS folder. If it was an email, though, you’re pretty much out of luck. As with most things Berry, though, there’s an easy workaround. All it requires is an email address and the following steps.
First, log into your BIS account. There, as you probably already know, you’ll see a list of your valid email accounts. To start things off you’ll find the email address for which you want to save messages and click Edit (the little pen and paper looking icon). That will bring you to your General Settings page.
The last text field on the page should be Auto BCC. Here you can enter in an email address which is not hooked up to your BlackBerry. That’s it. End of story. All emails you send from the selected BIS email address will now be blind copied to the other email address. You can now check that email and see all of the messages you’ve sent from your BlackBerry.
Note, however, that if you’re using Gmail, messages you send from your BlackBerry will show up in your Gmail sent messages folder. There’s no need to do anything in this case. That is, unless you want the emails to be searchable from your device. You can always install the Gmail BlackBerry app, which would give you access to your sent items. Some people just don’t have the available memory, though.
As for allowing you to search sent messages right from your BlackBerry device, there aren’t many options. You could try out an email application like Antair BlackBerry Spam Filter. I’m not quite sure how the custom filters go, but you can create whitelists and blacklists, so there’s hope. (I don’t know because I’m not dropping $50 on the application.) You could also follow the steps above, but add a BlackBerry email address to the auto-BCC field. Then you’d have the burden of marking all those messages as read. Annoying, yes, but it would allow you to search your saved messages.
Seriously, if anyone else has a method for doing this, leave it in the comments. I can’t seem to find a viable way to automatically mark certain messages sent to my BlackBerry as read, so they show up in my inbox but don’t register as new messages.
