I had a rather frustrating BlackBerry moment a week or so ago. I had just installed eOffice for BlackBerry so I could write my review. To do so, I had to free up some device memory. So I deleted a few unused applications, and there was enough space to install eOffice. Only, I noticed that afterwards my call logs were erased. Not only that, but new calls weren’t staying in there for more than a minute. After checking my device memory (same place as you find your PIN), I realized the problem. I had none. I was using basically every application on my phone, so what could I delete?
So we go to Options — Advanced Options — Applications to bring up the menu. First up, the BlackBerry Sample Video. This is up at the top of the list, near important-looking things like BlackBery Core Applications and BlackBerry System Software, so you might think twice about deleting it. Don’t. Roll over it with the trackball, hit the Menu button, and hit Delete. There’s little to no reason to have that on your Berry, especially if you need space.
(space saved: 64,284 bytes)
You can also clear the cache and cookies in your browser. First, launch the browser, and hit the Menu key. Select Options, and then click Cache Operations. Clear History should be highlighted. Click it. When you hit the Back button to exit, it’ll take a second to actually empty it.
(space saved: 67,444 bytes)
You can also clear Pushed Content and Cookie Cache to save even more memory. The only problem with these browser functions is that they build back up when you use your Internet. Oh well. Just make it a habit to clean them early and often.
(space saved: 48,000 bytes)
There. Now go install a new app to take up your newly cleaned memory.
