We’ve seen a lot of new features from Viigo lately, as they’ve expanded the functions of their application beyond mere RSS. It has come with a price: the application uses tons of memory. This can slow certain devices down to a crawl. I’ve known many people who have had to uninstall the BBGeeks co-branded reader because of the memory issues. Instead of saying “tough luck,” Viigo has unveiled a new app, Viigo News. It gets back to basics, offering a stripped-down RSS feed application that works much better with older devices with less available memory. It’s also good for those who don’t use the new Viigo features and just want an app that runs quickly.
After all the extras get stripped out, what you’re left with is the application which won our best BlackBerry RSS reader award, only upgraded. You’ll get all the feeds you want delivered right to your BlackBerry — from Viigo’s news sources or your own.
You can get Viigo News by heading to http://www.viigo.com/partner/news from your mobile browser or desktop. If you go from your computer you can view a quick flash demo of the application and the functions it performs. It’s a quick install from there. If you have a different version of Viigo already installed on your BlackBerry, delete it first before installing Viigo News.

My 8320 is much more peppy now that I have Viigo News (rather than Full Viigo) thanks! Always loved the RSS, but didn’t need the full app.
WTF? It’s 1.1mb vs 1.4mb. What a savings Viigo! Viigo is a fatty RSS app.
It’s still a large download but runs way quicker and seems to use less memory.
what a waste! even my podcast program is one fifth the size of this
[...] Viigo News brings RSS without the extras. If you want to save a little bit of memory, you can replace your Viigo with the new Viigo News, which gets back to the basics. It’s RSS only, so if that’s what you’re looking for, check it out. [...]
