Wirelessly sync your BlackBerry and Mac with Syncamatic

It’s been a while since I’ve lamented the plight of the Mac BlackBerry user. That’s probably because it’s become a bit easier on us lately. Desktop Manager for Mac still isn’t nearly as functional as its Windows counterpart, but they’ve updated it multiple times since the initial release, and it seems to be a lot more stable now. Yet there’s one thing that Mac users haven’t been able to do with ease, and that’s wirelessly sync data from their BlackBerrys to their Macs. That made my excitement at reading BerryReview today that much greater. They went over an app called Syncmatic that, yes, wirelessly syncs your BlackBerry and Mac data. It’s just what we’ve been looking for.

Syncmatic works with your address book, tasks, memos, and calendar, syncing them with your Mac or Outlook. This is a two-way sync, so changes you make in one place will get updated at both. And all without plugging your BlackBerry into your Mac and loading up Desktop Manager. I don’t know about you, but I prefer to avoid doing that whenever possible.

The calendar, contacts, notes, and tasks syncs are all performed manually — that is, if you don’t want to pay for the app. For the first 30 days you’ll get a trial of the premium service, which automatically syncs your devices using BlackBerry Push technology. So not only does your information automatically sync, but it does it using little battery life. Also for premium users, an online file storage feature is listed as coming soon. That adds even more value to the $6.99 per month price tag.

If you want Syncmatic for Mac, just head to App World and download it. Again, you’ll have the premium service free for 30 days. Also make sure to visit Syncmatic’s website, where you can download the Mac plugin for your computer. Outlook users can also get Syncmatic. It’s the same 30-day trial deal, and you download the Outlook plugin at the same place.

I would offer a different opinion. Since I’ve actually USED the app so I guess I am qualify to point out a few things for these guys:
- the link is 2048bit encrypted
- the Push is the real BlackBerry deal, no fake, no timer pulling

Privacy issue? Well I used Yahoo! for email, using Dropbox to sync my files… New technologies like this go by us so quickly if I restrict myself to my own server box located in my basement.

The only thing they don’t offer, is that they don’t sync any emails. But I got BIS for that anyway.

I had a look at this app and was very concerned about the way it so freely copies all of your data to its web servers. When installed ,the free version without mail, instantly copies everything to its online web site. For me this was worrying as I keep a lot of personal information in my notes/memos folder. This program works by copying all of your data to its own system and then manages changes. This means all new emails, calendar items etc are all copied to its own servers – to me a massive breach of confidentiality. Ask yourself this – would you be happy with Blackberry – for example – allowing a 3rd party full access to your mail and folders – if not, don’t use this program.
