We’ve got some app news coming from WES again, so instead of waiting for News From The Wire, we’ll share them here. The feature will still run on Thursday, with all the device announcement goodiness — though there hasn’t been a ton to this point. In any case, we’ve got some developments from Vlingo, the speech recognition application, Viigo, everyone’s favorite BlackBerry RSS reader, and Google Apps.
Vlingo
Like most free applications, Vlingo needs a way to make money. How are they accomplishing that? Their first stab is with Vlingo 3.0. The app costs $17.99, and includes some additional features. Kevin describes it as “the ability to send and reply to text messages and emails to anyone.” Personally I think Vlingo is going to have to add a bit more value to justify the charge. Then again, there are plenty of apps in the BBGeeks Store which cost as much and do a whole lot less.
Viigo
One thing I love about Viigo is that it keeps integrating new services. This time around it’s Pageonce, and it’s a premium service. It’s basically a life manager, allowing you to check your bank accounts, cell minutes, Netflix queue, itinerary, and more. Just download the app if you don’t have it already, and it should be in the Stocks & Finance tab. You can try it for 14 days before buying.
In order to better serve small businesses, Google has launched Google Apps Connector for BES. This will allow small enterprise users to access Google Apps, including Calendar, Mail, and Contacts. As we’ve complained about many times, this involves only a one-way sync, but a two-way is supposedly on the way.
