WES 2009: LogMeIn

Posted by Joe on May 6, 2009

I have to admit, it’s a bit disappointing to not have any major device announcements coming at WES this year. We could hold out hope that they’re just teasing us by waiting on the 9630 announcement, but don’t hold your breath. That said, there are some interesting device-related tidbits, but we’re going to save them for an abbreviated News From The Wire tomorrow. Today we’ll focus on one Storm app, though a good one, called LogMeIn Ignition. It allows users to access their computers right from their BlackBerry Storms.

This is the kind of app which has the potential to revolutionize the mobile work force. The BlackBerry itself starts to do that, as we can access email and the Internet from anywhere. But an application which allows remote access to a desktop or laptop computer takes it a step further. Now you can be sitting in your favorite eatery, talking shop with the cook, and still react to an urgent email which requires a document on your computer. The biggest advantage in this scenario, of course, is not having to schlep your laptop everywhere.

Best of all, this works with both Windows and Mac computers, so us Mac kids aren’t left out in the rain. Unfortunately it’s not available quite yet, but you can visit the above link to sign up for updates. You can also check out a demo — though this is for the iPhone app. Look for a beta program sometime in the near future for the Storm app. As for pricing, the normal Ignition app costs $39.99 per year, though the iPhone app is $10 cheaper. Hopefully the Storm app is more in line with the latter.
