We first talked about the ÜberTwitter BlackBerry client a month ago, and the response was pretty strong. People noted in the comments that they favored this over all other BlackBerry Twitter apps, including some that have been around much longer. Good news today from the ÜberTwitter crew: they’re readying a new beta release with some upgrades. After the jump, we’ll list the chances in the new beta.
* Support for yfrog.com images in preview/view
* Does not merge mentions into your main timeline anymore, this was causing folks to easily hit the rate limit
* Moved @replies and Direct Messages To You menu items up towards the top
* Fixed bug when trying to follow people from any of the search timelines
* Small avatars should work fine now, when you change it automatically changes your timeline, flushes cache, etc.
* Added option to NOT use BB sound/vib notifications – some models are almost impossible to figure out how to change
* Added ‘Send to UberTwitter’ item to BB OS versions below 4.6 when viewing picts/videos
* Avatars weren’t being scaled correctly, causing issues on some devices
* ReTweets were setting the ‘reply-to-id’, which would cause it to be treated like a reply, which did not allow some users to view the tweet
* Changed fonts on status update screen to be consistent
* When pict/vid is added to tweet, subtract correct number of characters to account for URL, making the character count more accurate
* Fixed bug where uncaught exception could occur if you clicked an ‘@user’ in another bb app and ÜberTwitter wasn’t already running
* Fixed bug where some failures to retrieve avatars could result in ‘spinning arrows’ and a huge battery drain.
Fixing battery drain issues is always a big deal, so high five for getting that one done. Everything else seems pretty normal for a new beta release. They’ve fixed a ton of small things, which should make the ÜberTwitter experience that much better.
To get ÜberTwitter, just head to http://www.ubertwitter.com/bb/download.php from your BlackBerry browser. And make sure to let us know what you think of it.
