Fridays are great, aren’t they? Just a few more hours until the weekend. Before you head off to the beach, we’ll go over a few quick BlackBerry hits. This would have made News From The Wire yesterday, but I caught it a bit too late. Apparently Sprint has said they will release a Wi-Fi equipped Tour next year. This is a change of course for CDMA BlackBerry devices, which typically have lacked the Wi-Fi feature we’ve seen on a few GSM models. Verizon hasn’t commented on the Tour specifically, but said they would be “working with RIM to be able to offer WiFi on future BlackBerry smartphones.” Good news all around.
A couple of neat applications after the jump.
For those who enjoy police scanners, there is now a BlackBerry application which simulates one. Via BerryReview we learn of BBScanner. The app is in beta now, and is free, but it could get a price tag once they work out the bugs. The details are at http://www.bbscanner.com/, and the download is at http://ota.bbscanner.com/.
For those who live in New York City and ride the subway frequently, you can check out a new app called Exit Strategy NYC. It would take plenty of time to figure out where the exits are for each subway — and thus the optimal place to sit on the train. You can get it on BlackBerry App World for $2.99.
