At some point, for whatever reason, it might be in your best interest to do a number of things your BlackBerry can’t do natively. Say…disguise your caller ID, change your voice, or record the call. What your intentions for doing this might be I do not know. I won’t ask. We already know there are few ways to record phone calls on your BlackBerry, but we haven’t even delved into the other areas. There is an app out which can accomplish that, and thanks to a little controversy it’s come to our attention. Well, that and BBCool, where I spotted this. It’s called Spoof, and yeah, it does all those things I just mentioned. Interested yet?
The application itself is free, but it requires a calling card to use the service. This is kind of like long distance cards you find at the supermarket. You can purchase 25 credits (1 credit = 1 minute in America) for $4.95, 60 credits for $9.95, 130 credits for $19.95, 270 credits for $39.95, or 560 credits for $79.95. So if you’re going to disguise you caller ID, mask your voice, or record a call, it’s going to cost you.
But it’s really that simple. After you enter in your PIN, you can make a call to a certain number with a different ID and voice than you normally would have, and record the call as well. Of course, some might wonder whether this is legal. In general it is, but there are state laws which might render it illegal in certain places. Check out Spoof’s FAQ to get more information regarding the legality of this service.
You can get the SpoofApp at BlackBerry App World for free, and you can purchase minutes at the company’s website. The app has been banned in the iPhone App Store, but is still going strong for BlackBerry. Rock on.
