For some of you, this might be the last time you read BBGeeks before heading out for the holiday (well, maybe you’ll catch our feature on Seesmic later today). Thursday is Thanksgiving, and after that starts the mad dash holiday shopping season. Unless you’re an astute online shopper, that means dealing with crowds at every store. Your BlackBerry can help you organize that shopping, but that’s at a basic level. As we know, there are applications like StudentDocket that take that basic functionality to a more advanced level. It’s with this in mind that we direct you to SplashShopper.
The application is an all-in-one shopping tool. You can add items to a number of lists, and then can sort by any number of criteria. That makes it easier to get all the things you need while you’re out, rather than forgetting that one thing.
You can detail your items with a number of different descriptions, including store, category, quantity, price, and even aisle. You can also note if the item carries sales tax, if you have a coupon, and if you want to auto delete the item after you purchase it. After that, you can sort your items by store, by type, or by need.
This not only makes organizing your shopping list easier, but it also makes budgeting easier. Because you can enter in the price and tax status for each item, you can quickly calculate a close estimate of your total shopping bill. I used to do this in college with my roommates. Every time we went shopping we’d note the price of any new items. When we created our list, we’d just look at our spreadsheet of prices and figure out how much we were going to spend. It made it easy to not go over budget.
SplashShopper essentially takes that spreadsheet idea to your BlackBerry. Sure, you can always just create a spreadsheet and use it on your BlackBerry. And if that works for you, by all means, save the money. But for others, SplashShopper’s interface will make everything easier.
You can get a copy of SplashShopper for $29.95. It is available with most BlackBerry models.
