While the SlingPlayer for BlackBerry has been out since late December, it was just in its public beta phase. We kick off your Friday with news that it is now in a stable version 1.0, suitable for all BlackBerry users. For those unfamiliar with Slingbox, you can check out an old, old post of ours, in which we just begin to get geeked over this. So now your home TV can go with you anywhere.
All you need is a Slingbox unit, which you can compare here. After hooking it up to your home television, you then download the software to your BlackBerry device. The following models are on Sling Media’s recommended list:
Bold, Curve 8900, 8820, 8350i, 8320, 8220, 8120
So it looks like CDMA devices aren’t exactly up to snuff yet. If you have an 8320, 8220, or 8120, Wi-Fi might be the only way for this to work. As you’ll see in the demo below, it doesn’t work too well on an EDGE connection.
