Late on Friday the folks at Facebook released the latest build of their BlackBerry application. This is welcome news for many people who have been long awaiting these upgrades. We’ll have the upgrades after the jump, but first you can check out our BlackBerry Facebook application guide, which came out during the first build. It’s still a neat walk-through, and it’s something we’re going to update once we get into the nitty gritty of version 1.6.

Here’s what Facebook is touting for their new features:

  • You can view your friends’ highlights — status messages, photos, comments, wall posts — right on the home screen.
  • Access to friends’ walls without going to the mobile site.
  • Improved photo viewing, including slide shows and commenting.
  • Three new languages, including Thai, Indonesian, European Portugese.

Just head to Facebook’s app page to download the new version.

I deleted my application from my blackberry because I like using from my web browser until I realized I couldn’t upload pictures from my phone (the only good thing about the app). I went thru the whole download process again with the newest version and I too have a completed download and the application listed in the Apps list but no icon and no ablitiy to upload pictures or use the app at all. Help! I love being able to upload pictures from my blackberry directly to facebook.

The new facebook app messed up my phone! Something about the syncing of the address book and the feature that sends facebook notifications to the messages folder didn’t agree with my phone and caused all these error messages to pop up everytime I tried to use any other app.. I had to wipe everything from my phone and lost all my contacts and messages :(

So I just got the tour (amazing)and I set up the app. And at first I was getting the notifications through the app and you get the fb icon. Well now they all come via txt message! How do I go back?

I downloaded the new version and there is no Facebook icon on my home screen. I’ve tried restarting, taking the battery out, deleting the app and downloading again, set different themes…. nothing seems to work!
frustrating….

check in your downloads folder or applications folder – sometimes the icon gets placed there instead of the home screen.

Od as it sounds I have sprint and the icon will not come up on the sprint theme. I have changed to the the L and I have the icon and it works fine.
