Protect your pictures and documents with mblVault

As smartphones get more and more advanced, we’re seeing an increasing amount of sensitive information stored on them. RIM provides a secure platform for its BlackBerry devices, but they can’t protect everything. The files store locally on your device, for instance, are at risk if your BlackBerry is lost or stolen. Many developers have released applications to help with this issue, mblware among them. Their application, mblVault, allows you to encrypt your sensitive documents, including image files, so that they’re inaccessible to unwanted parties.

Once you install mblVault, you can move your sensitive files into it. They will then be password protected, which adds another level of security beyond the unlock password. So if someone finds your lost or stolen BlackBerry, all the files that you have stored with mblVault will be off-limits. Even better, mblVault even protects files that are stored on an SD card, making them unreadable even on a computer.

New to mblVault 2.0 is a hidden camera feature, which automatically places the photos you snap into the application. This is great for those times where you take a picture and forget about it. The application also features an auto-close feature. If you leave mblVault open, then the encryption becomes moot. With the auto-close feature, however, the application will quit once the backlight goes out. You’ll need to re-enter your password to access it again.

mblVault works with all BlackBerry models running OS 4.5 or higher. You can get it at the BBGeeks Store for $4.99. If you want to transfer it to another device, though, you’ll have to pay a $1.50 fee.

BB OS allows you to encrypt files both on-device and on memory card and you can select the “Include Media Files” option, all your photos, videos and even voice notes are encrypted.

I am totally not seeing what value this app is adding??!
