Pick up movie tickets in a flash with Fandango for BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on December 22, 2009 | 4 comments | Filed under : BlackBerry Applications

Remember when movie tickets used to be $5? Maybe I’m dating myself here, but I remember paying that much for a prime-time movie with my friends on any random Friday night in middle school. Now, though, movies cost north of $10 per ticket, and that’s if you buy them at the theater. If you use an online service to get your tickets in advance, you have to pay a service charge on top of that, moving tickets into a once unfathomable price range. Sometimes, however, the extra price is worth the convenience. I can absolutely see the value in a Fandango application for BlackBerry. It’s out now, so you can get tickets to a movie no matter where you are.

The application performs most of the website’s functions, allowing you to browse movies and theaters in your area to see what’s playing and at what time. If third party applications can access your BlackBerry GPS unit, the Fandango app can locate theaters near you, eliminating the step of entering your ZIP code. Further, Fandango can then use your maps application to provide driving directions. You can also add your favorite theaters to a list for quicker searching.

In addition to movie showtime and synopses, you can also browse user reviews and even watch trailers. That’s one enormous perk of the application — I can absolutely see myself killing time in an above-ground commute, or any other boredom situation, by watching movie trailers.

After you find the movie you want to see at a theater near you, you can purchase tickets right from the application. You can use the credit card you store online with your Fandango account, or you can store your credit card information on your device. Either way, it makes for quick ticket purchases.

The app, of course, is free. You can download it at the Fandango website
