When I’m talking to friends and family, for the most part I use GChat and AIM. Yet when it comes to business, it seems that colleagues and clients tend to use MSN Messenger. It makes sense, then, for me to get the mobile application for my BlackBerry. I remember trying to do it about a year ago and seeing that Verizon did not allow the application. That has apparently changed between now and then. As far as I can tell, you can get MSN/Windows Live Messenger on any BlackBerry device.
The best way to do this is to navigate to http://www.blackberry.com/livemessenger from your BlackBerry device OTA. You then have to agree to the terms and conditions, which will bring you to the download screen. Bada bing, bada boom, you’ve got your Windows Live Messenger. You can also go to that site from your desktop browser, but it has to be Internet Explorer. Sigh. You can download it and get it on your BlackBerry with desktop manager.
There are alternatives, of course. If you like to spread your messaging among a number of services, an all-in-one messenger might work best for you. We go over a number of these in our article about BlackBerry instant messaging. I don’t use one of these, so I’m not in a position to recommend any of them. If nothing else, EQO seems popular.
