Manager your BlackBerry files with BBFileScout

Here’s a great find from Kyle at BBCool. It’s an app called BBFileScout, and it gives you a free and easy way to manage your BlackBerry files, both on device memory and media card. This is version 1.0, so it seems like the first release out of beta. We went over a file manager in our Father’s Day apps post, and while that one is a mean filing machine, BBFileScout offers many of the same functions for free. After the jump we’ll go over some of the features. Plus, of course, the download link.

One look at the features and you might be thinking, “Holy crap!” That’s what I thought, at least. Not only can you perform simple file management functions like moving and renaming files, but it can also create ZIP archives, open documents in a text editor, and open media files in the media player. You can copy whole directories for movement, or you can just delete the whole thing.

As for the features new to the latest release:

  • Options reorganized – on BlackBerry® devices it’s quite common to separate the application options into various screens – this makes the options way more organized and easier to understand.
  • Path entry fields (Startup Path, Thumbnail Storage & Playlist Directory) show now an additional button that allows you to browse in the file system to make an appropriate selection (in the past this was only possible via the menu)

Plus, just because you can do so much with the application, the creators have written up an options guide to walk you through the application and all its functions.

To download BBFileScout onto your BlackBerry over the air, visit this link. If you’d rather download a ZIP and sideload it, get the ZIP file here. If you dig the application as much as I did, you can also head to their main website and leave ‘em a donation. After all, what’s the greatest nation? Do-nation.

Is this an old post? Bbfilescout has been out for a while now and has gone through many releases.
