We all herald the Internet connectivity of our BlackBerrys, but few of us take full advantage of its features. For example, I — for one — don’t know many people who use VoIP with their BlackBerry Internet to make International calls. Yeah, it’s more an ideal scenario with the Curve, which has on-board WiFi. But hey, the rest of them still connect to the Internet, so if you’re calling overseas, VoIP calls are still an option. Heck, we know a friend who does that all the time on his Palm Treo. And if Treo users can do it, BlackBerry users can, too!
Raketu, a company that provides VoIP solutions, has announced a new application that is catered right to BlackBerry users. If you’re carrying a Curve, 8800 series, or a Pearl, you can start making cheap International calls, as well as global text messages.
The best part is that you don’t have to download any software. Just point your browser to http://BlackBerry.raketu.com and sign up for the service. Then add $9.95, $24.95, or $49.95 to your account, and you’re eligible for up to 600 free international calling minutes.
Calling overseas can be expensive, but it can be necessary for both personal and business reasons. So check out Raketu to see if you can reduce your expenses in that regard. If it’s for work, show it to your boss. He’ll very much appreciate the expenses you’d be saving the company — or at least that’s how I’d like to imagine it.
