One of the applications we reviewed in our fitness tracking on your BlackBerry article was Gym Technik. It’s a web-based app which allows you to select exercises to build a workout, and then to track that workout. I had a few critiques of the service at the time, and they’ve done a good job of upgrading along the way. This week we get word that they’ve made some pretty significant changes, ones that will make the service easier to use. That’s the whole point, really. Working out is hard enough; who wants to have to work just to record the results?
There are two major new features, plus a few smaller ones. The first is the ability to automatically copy your previous workout stats into your new workout. Some weeks you just don’t increase your weight. That’s fine. It’s best to master one weight before moving up to the next. Even if you are increasing the weight, it’s just a simple change.
The other change is the ability to view the entire workout on one page. Previously, you had to hit Next and Back to navigate through a workout — pity on you if you didn’t do the exercises in order. The full-workout view not only saves navigation time, but it helps those whose gym doesn’t get cell reception. Now you can load up the workout before you go in — even auto-filling the numbers from your last workout — so you can still view what you need to do.
On the smaller end, numerals are now default in numeral fields, a feature that all too many developers ignore. Holding down the Alt key can suck. Thank you for making it a bit easier. The latest articles from Gym Technik writers will pop up when you log in (which you can read while working out, I suppose). Finally, they’ve added three images for each exercise, so even if you haven’t performed it before you can see how it’s done. If you’re an expert and just want your BlackBerry to run a bit faster, you can disable the loading of images.
Again the application is free, so why not give it a shot? You can download it at gymtechnik.com.
