Google launches mobile app for BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on September 11, 2008

Google has always been pretty to use right from my BlackBerry browser. I just click GoTo, and it’s usually the first, second, or third link in my history. From there, it’s smooth sailing. But Google has added a few features to search in the past month or so, including Google Suggest, which helps you complete queries before you finish typing. They’ve now announced their Google Mobile app, which boasts a number of features you can’t get with your BlackBerry browser. Let’s take a look at what they’ll offer.

Google boasts a faster search, in that you don’t have to wait for the browser to load. This wasn’t a problem, though, as Google’s mobile home page usually loads faster than any other site on the ‘net. It does provide your search history, which is great for guys like me who do a billion searches and inevitably repeat more than a few. As mentioned, it adds Google Suggest, which gives you common queries as you type. That could save some wear and tear on the thumbs.

Other than that, it’s just support for Google applications: quick downloads, application support, and update alerts.

This might work for some people. It’s sometimes easier just to have an app than to keep going back to the same webpage. Me? I’m going to save my memory for other apps. The Google homepage works just fine.
