Free BeWeather application now in App World

Posted by Joe on January 14, 2010

As we go through new BlackBerry themes every other week, I’ve been noticing that more and more have spots for weather applications on the home screen. It’s a great feature, really, especially when it’s also on the lock screen. Those are the screens we look at most often, and to have the current weather conditions handy proves useful in many situations. In yesterday’s theme review we looked at two themes with weather app slots. If you liked one of those themes, you might want to check out BeWeather. It’s a simple weather app, and now it’s available for free at BlackBerry App World.

As you’d expect, the free version contains only the essentials. These include two daily forecast screens — today with daily forecast and compact daily — a five-day forecast with the high and low temperatures, conditions, and probability of precipitation. Best of all, it’s ad-free and fits right into your home screen weather icon slot.

If you’re a real weather junkie, you can check out the premium version, also available through App World. It expands the forecast to seven-days, and also includes an hourly forecast — great for planning around events at certain times of day (I always check the hourly when trying to determine if they’ll get in a baseball game). The premium version can track you by GPS, allowing for a more customized weather forecast. For customers in the US, the application includes animated radars.

For those who want a simple weather app to fit into the slot on their home screen, you can get BeWeather for free at App World. For the weather junkies, the premium version runs $9.99, and requires no subscription fee.

Hat tip: BlackBerry Rocks.

Hey, i’ll actually download these, very nice to see BB actually getting real-time, useful apps like iPhone users are used to.
