The one complain I always hear about Pandora for BlackBerry is that there is no caching. This can be an annoyance for anyone who goes in and out of cellular signal — like the subway. Without caching, once your current song finishes playing that’s it. No more music for you. With caching, though, your BlackBerry can pull data behind the scenes and keep songs loaded up, ready to go for when you’re out of signal range. FlyCast is trying to change all that. They’ve released a new version of their streaming radio application, and it includes caching. There is a price, of course. There’s always a price.

The FlyCast application remains free, so there’s no change in that regard. However, users wishing to cache their stations so they can survive a trip underground, or really anywhere without cellular signal, can purchase an upgrade package. FlyCast charges $9.95 for five hours of caching and $19.95 for 20 hours. This is a one-time fee, so for the life of your device you can keep up to five or 20 hours of music cached. You just won’t be able to keep it there forever.

See, if you could keep songs cached forever, you’d probably never take advantage of FlyCast’s in-application purchasing feature, which lets you buy and download tracks as you hear them, or even after you’ve heard them. To promote that service a bit more (and also probably to placate the music industry), FlyCast has imposed a three plays/30 days caching limit. You can play each song in the cache three times, or keep it stored for 30 days, whichever comes first. Then it’s bye-bye. Well, until the next time it comes up.

One final new feature: Twitter integration. If you hear a song you think your Twitter followers would enjoy, you can recommend it to them. Followers can then click on a link which will take them to the station. Sounds like an easy idea that could pay off.
