Apparently this happened last week, but I just saw it late yesterday. If you’ve never heard of Didiom, as I hadn’t, it’s quite the music service for your BlackBerry. It allows you to play music from your iTunes library right to your device. This is accomplished via wireless streaming, and it doesn’t cost you any money. You’ll have to supply payment information upon setup, though, since Didiom does offer paid access to its million-song library, from which you can download songs OTA. Details and info after the jump.
The streaming service is what users get Didiom for. You can essentially carry around your entire music library without using up all the disk space. Streaming can get data-intensive, of course, so it’s recommended that you’re on an unlimited plan.
The store is an interesting tie-in, and in theory it should work well. If you’re listening to something from your library and it makes you think of another artist, song, or album, you have direct access to it. This will probably be cause for a few impulsive purchases, but otherwise it’s helpful if you want to expand your music library.
Didiom is running a promotion for new accounts. Sign up for one — again, it’s free — and you get 20 free downloads. They won’t be songs of your choosing, but rather a number of selections by Didiom. They include the new Officer Roseland album, the album Speaker Bunny by DJ Reset, one song from the band WYLDSKY, and finally “Revolution Now” by JuaKali.
Oh, and as one last note, us Mac and BlackBerry users will have to sit this one out; it’s not compatible with Mac OSX. If you’re a PC user and want to give this a whirl, you can download it here.
