Coming soon: WordPress and Basecamp apps for BlackBerry

Posted by Joe on June 4, 2009

It wasn’t three months ago that we first learned of a possible WordPress BlackBerry client. That was supposed to be from Automattic, the same company which developed the iPhone WordPress client. Still, three months have passed and we’ve heard barely a peep from them. However, at WordCamp this past week, we learned that we might be getting one soon. The quote, to be specific, is “New Blackberry App to be released soon.” That’s pretty darn exciting, if I do say so myself. And as an avid WordPress user, I do say so. That’s not the only Web tool getting a BlackBerry app in the near future, though.

It also appears that Bryte Software is gearing up for a Basecamp application. This seems a bit more useful on the general user front, since I can name about 10 times as many people who use Basecamp as use WordPress. Soon we should be able to access all our collaborative project information right from the BlackBerry.

The application is called Kompass, and you can read about the private beta here. It’s been a little over a day since they posted that, so no idea if they’re still accepting beta testers. If you’re interested, though, head to http://kompasshq.com/ and sign up. You can also contact Adam Carlan with any questions: adam(at)brytesoftware.com.

So it looks like we’ll be getting two very useful BlackBerry apps in the future. I couldn’t be more excited.
