Chrysler Vehicle Apps Coming to Blackberry

The following is a guest post from Wayde at My Connected Car.

Tired of fishing through gum wrappers and old parking tickets to get to your owner’s manual so you can get the straight dope on that “Check Engine” light? Pietro Gorlier, CEO at Mopar feels your pain. That’s why Chrysler is working on a series of free smartphone apps that aim to put all the information you could ever want about any model of Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge on your Berry.

A Chrysler smartphone app has already been released for the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee for iPhone only. But by the end of the year Chrysler promises to have free downloadable apps for every model of Chrysler available for Blackberry, iPhone and Android. The apps aren’t just for owners; anyone thinking of buying a Chrysler will find it interesting. The app will also include video demonstrations of the vehicle’s features and even instructional videos to demonstrate advanced features like built-in navigation system.

The move from Chrysler is a first for the auto industry letting Mopar steal a bit of thunder away from Hyundai. Hyundai has been touting a deal on their 2011 Equus luxury sedan that gives away a digital owner’s manual on a brand new iPad. But for a $48,000 car – do you really want an iPad that badly? We find a free downloadable app much more practical.
