Why this wasn’t released along with the device-based application, I’ll never know, but RIM has just launched BlackBerry App World for the desktop. It has all the upgrades of version 1.1, including the ability to search for both paid and free applications. Best of all, you can opt to have the app email you a download link, so you can still perform the download OTA. For those who have issues with the speed of the on-device App World, that’s a pretty big plus. Just head to the normal URL, blackberry.com/appworld and scroll down to get it. Unfortunately you need to use Microsoft Internet Explorer, so once again Mac and BlackBerry users are hung out to dry.

This doesn’t seem to be a desktop App World, rather, it is an option to allow you to download the App World software to your desktop and then load it onto your BB. Either way, I just tried to do it and it failed to work. I have Windows XP with all updates and IE 8.0.6001.18702. It gave me a “wrong browser” error.
Actually, you can browse the whole catalog online using the link he provided using your desktop PC. Then you put your email address in and it sends the OTA link just like he said. Also, it is working for me in firefox, so I’m not sure why he said it only allows IE.
so it’s not really a desktop appworld.
So what if your BB is secure such that it won’t let you download apps directly to it. Is there any way to pull apps to my desktop and push it tot eh BB from there?
