Ever since the release of the Facebook application for BlackBerry, there have been countless posts made online about both its benefits and its shortcomings.
One specific complaint is the fact that this application seems to be draining the battery life of some early adopters.
While I cannot speak for anyone else, I can attest to the fact that the Facebook application functioned perfectly on my 8800. I have experienced none of the errors or glitches reported widely across the Web.
For those of you who have, unfortunately, been exposed to a less than satisfying user experience while installing and attempting to integrate the Facebook application into your mobile lifestyle, I am here to help you get rid of it.
Simply follow the instructions below and you will be back on the path to longer battery life.
Just Take it Away Already!
To remove the Facebook application from your BlackBerry, or any other application for that matter, involves only a few easy steps. I have laid out this process using screenshots taken directly from my 8800 during the deletion process.
Step 1:

Locate the applications icon on your BlackBerry homescreen and click on it once.
Step 2:

Locate the Options icon from the list of available applications presented to you. Click on this icon once.
Step 3:

Select Advanced Options from the list and click on it once.
Step 4:

Under the Advanced Options, you will see the Applications heading. Highlight this heading and click it once.
Step 5:

Scroll down the list of applications installed on your BlackBerry until Facebook is highlighted.
Press the menu button on your BlackBerry (located between the call/dial button and the trackball on the 8800). This will bring up the properties/permissions dialog box.
Step 6:

scroll down until you have highlighted the word Delete and click on it once to uninstall the Facebook for BlackBerry application.
Step 7:

You will be prompted to delete [uninstall] at this point or cancel the operation.
That’s it, folks; uninstalling the Facebook application from your BlackBerry in a few simple steps.

Facebook was pushed onto my 8300 (Curve) and it does not appear on the “Application List”. I tried using the desktop appication and Facebook does not appear there either.
HELP – I hate Facebook and want it off my device.Thanks.
I also can not find facebook in my applications menu (new blackberry pearl), and it is the first thing I had planned to delete.
I also HATE facebook!
GO UNDER SETTINGS THEN ADVANCED OPTIONS AND THEN TO “SERVICE BOOKS”.
SCROLL TO FACEBOOK AND DELETE IT!!
VERY SATISFYING!
I downloaded a few 3rd party java games using a popular batch file floating around the web which converts the files, then uploads them to your BB.
I’ve gotten tired of some of these games and want to delete them, but they do not appear under applications or even service books. The do not show up in the application loader on my PC either.
Looks like you first need to accept the terms and conditions and download Facebook – after you’ve downloaded, it should appear in the Applications list where you can nuke it.
I deleted it from my applications but the freaking icon wont go away!! What should I do?
Hello Christy, Cooper here.

Em – Thank you! You’re right…it was very satisfying!!
I tried removing the facebook application from my blackberry pearl according to your instructions, but I am still left with the annoying icon. I went to the link you posted, but pushing alt and shift at the same time just changes my ringer to vibrate or silent. Please help me, I’m going crazy with it on my phone.
Just kidding, I took out my battery and turned it back on and now my life is back to good.
Thank you, Cooper. This was very helpful :)
Thanks Em. That worked. Death to Facebook!
Thank you this was soooo helpful! it had been annoying the hell out of me, I didn’t want it on there, it just appeared and shifted all my icons! thanks again

I was getting nowhere until I pulled the battery – bye bye Facebook!
I downloaded the Facebook application for Blackberry but found it annoying. I deleted it in “Applications” and–ever since then–my regular emails will not download to my Blackbery. Although i hear a bell/ringer signifying they’re being downloaded (i have a new email), i can’t see it! i have no idea where it’s downloading. Could deleting the blackberry facebook application have screwed something up in my regular blackberry? This isn’t a coincidence… help!
BBUser305: Have you pulled your battery?
I went through all the steps provided to uninstall the facebook application via the phone(applications and service books) but its still there and seems to be working..what else should I do?
A.Green,
Go into Service Books under the Advanced Options menu. You should see something there that says Facebook. Delete it. That’ll get it good and gone.
It might show up later on your desktop (it did for me). I just hid the icon at that point, knowing the app was gone.
this was so helpful! facebook slowed down my phone soo much!!!
thankyou!!
Anyone know why the hourglass comes on the screen when I go to certin websites and won’t go off until I pull battery I have 8300
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! The facebook notifications have been driving me crazy and I had no idea what to do since my Blackberry is fairly new and I’m still learning all of the ins and outs. I appreciate this!!
I have the BB curve x 1 week. I enjoy facebook but am having a hard time having the facbook emails deleted from my bb at the same time as my laptop. I am able to delete them right away from my BB but doesn’t seem to “connect” with my laptop. When i get home from work I have to go through and delete all my FB emails. No problem with regular emails being deleted at the same time from my BB only Face book. do you have a suggestion?
Em thanks for your input – facebook and myspace, flicker, googletalk, and the other crap i dont want is now deleted. Very good tip
Thanks very much Cooper, you are doing a good Job….. I had a flickr and myspace icons that were pissing me off, once i read and followed your Instruction, i managed to get rid of the Icons.

help I want it fully off!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday thanks to your instructions I was able to get RID OFF Facebook on my blackberry.
However, today, when i turned it on, IT”S BACK AGAIN!!!!
How could we get rid of it PERMANENTLY?
hi it worked perfectly on my 8900 curve (uk version) the app won’t let you press menu and delete so this way is the only way to get rid of it! cheers for the help because i hated that app, it seems poorly written which is probably why so many people have problems with it.
I just got a curve. It locks up with the Caps Lock Sign on. The only way I can get it unstuck is taking the battery out. I tried deleting facebook but I don’t have a settings on my phone nor is there a facebook under the applications?
It worked! I also hate facebook
Thanks so much, without you all the memory was being taken up and
i couldnt return texts or anything.
Merci !

Hi… I followed these easy steps but the problem I’m having on my BB 8830. When I go to delete; I should see the the following on the menu selections: edit default permissions, modules, view properties or help. I only have: switch applications and close. Any other solutions?
I HAVE TRYED TO UNINSTALL FACE BOOK BUT WHEN I GO TO THE APPLICATIONS AND CLICK ON FACEBOOK IT ONLY GIVES ME THE LETS ME CLOSE OR SWITCH APP. I DONT GET A DELETE OPTION
OH AND MY BLACKBERRY IS A CURVE 8330 PLEZZZZZ HELP
@KOEHLER Try this Options > Advanced > Service Book > FACEBOOK > Menu Key (BB logo) > Delete
I followed the step by step directions, face book won’t delete from my blackberry pearl 8120. It’s driving me crazy.
My Facebook has taken over my Blackberry Curve calendar and is infecting everything. I’ve changed the default calendar to my work one – which it used to be -, I’ve changed the facebook settings and deselected the calendar, I’ve turned the BB off, taken the battery out and done everything except hit it with a baseball bat. It seems to be possessed. I had the Sprint/Blackberry tech on the phone for 30 minutes today trying to help me fix it….with no success. Any suggestions – I suppose I will have to delete Facebook from the bb.
Craziest behavior on by Pearl 8120! This has eaten up hours of my time. After seeing duplicate entries in my calendar (entries were on my default calendar and Facebook, I started removing all the Facebook entries. Then I removed Facebook application from the applications list, but the CICAL entry was still listed in the service books and the Calendar was STILL getting all messed up. Removed that CICAL record, but Facebook STILL showed up in my calendar! Used DM to clear the calendar DB (entries were under “Calendar ALL” not “Calendar”. Re-synced with Google, and all the calendar entries were added to the (’non-existent’) Facebook calendar. Made sure that my Google Apps account was the default calendar (it was). Went back into DM and re-cleared the Calendar DB. Turned off the device, removed the battery, restarted the device, and IT’S STILL THERE. How can I have a calendar without a CICAL record in the service book for an application I removed??
Who knows how to delete the Facebook off your BB Curve that you downloaded? Ive done all the tricks…. 1.HARD rest… 2.Options > Advanced Options > Applications (but theres nothing about Facebook in there. and 3.Options …> Advanced Options > Service Book. (still nothing in there about Facebook) Does anyone know anything else I can do?
So you are still getting FB updates on your phone?
Many carriers push the FB icon to your phone as part of their service packages. If this is the case just hide the icon so you don’t see it.
No I’m not getting any updates cause I have signed off the facebook app. I contacted AT&T and theres nothing they can do about it. I downloaded it to test it out to see how it was cause people I know have it and they liked it. I myself didn’t and I dont have a media package and once I had down loaded it it makes my BB freeze and run slow. Ive tired everything to get if off my phone. When I had gotten the phone it didn’t come with it I put it on there myself.
Not sure what to say — if you followed the instruction in the post the app should be gone. Try pulling the battery, replacing, deleting the app if it is still visible then pull the battery again immediately after reboot.
When you are back up and running hopefully it is gone for good. Not much else I can tell you with regards to removing the app sorry =(
Ive tried… The thang is its not even showing up in the apps! The only thang on my phone I can find facebook is in the icon list and then also holding alt and pressing lglg to being up the event log and then going to options one says BBLogger[Facebook] and the others just say Facebook. Ive unchecked them and it still shows up.
I have an 8310 Curve and I deleted the Facebook Application but I cannot delete the Facebook Calendar from the Calendar. Everything is defaulting to Facebook but when I go into Calendar Options, I cannot delete Facebook and just leave my two e-mail addresses. Can anyone help with this?
a huuuuuuuuge thank you Cooper!!! and yes, it is VERY VERY VERY satisfying (As “Em” states) to be able to get rid of those ******* evil things… thanks again!
I also had a hard time finding the facebook icon – it is located under the communities tab
Thank you! That worked beautifully!
