Facebook application crashes BlackBerrys?

Posted by Joe on November 7, 2007

Scouring the web, we came across this anecdote of someone who had their BlackBerry crash after a week of using the Facebook application. The problem lies right in the application’s convenience. Messages and alerts from Facebook are sent to your phone, but instead of being hosted on Facebook’s servers, they are stored locally on your phone. For this user, it caused his email, call history, and Facebook messages to be deleted.

So what about you? Any issues among the BlackBerry faithful regarding the new application?

I lost all of my conversations on the BB messenger. It has also happened to other 2 BB owners as well, also losing their call log and some BB messenger contacts. We see no other reason aside from Facebook to be the reason since all other programs we have are default BB applications. I would like to know more about this as well. I wouldn’t like to erase the Fbook app but if it happens again I think I prefer keeping my information in my phone.

Not sure about that. But I did just download the mobile MySpace application for my blackberry curve and all of my SMS, IM’s and call history keep dissappearing.

I downloaded the new fbook app last month, and my curve kept freezing and randomly turning off. I took it to the repair place and they said the fbook app is the reason, they couldn’t tell me why. So I deleted the app, and now my curve is ok.

does any one know how to uninstall the facebook application from the bold ? i am a mac user so desktop manager is not an option. The facebook app automtically adds a calendar to the device and this fact prevents missing sync from syncing…

fb app worked for awhile but then my phone randomly shuts off and the fb icon at the top of my curve never goes away, i think it also might be the reason why i dont recieve all of my bbm messages…. im sad :(

My blackberry curve was crashing every 5-10 minutes (literally) and after reading a lot of BB discussion forums, it seemed a lot of people had the same problem.

I removed the facebook app, and now it’s working perfectly.

Trouble is, I’m a facebook addict! I want the app! Does anyone know of an alternative?

Same here Lindsay. Once I removed the facebook app I was crash free. However it was after I spent a painful visit to the T-Mobile store and received a new blackberry in the mail. Oh well at least I have a refreshed blackberry.
