RIM making some changes to BlackBerry chargers

Posted by Joe on May 7, 2010 | 7 comments | Filed under : BlackBerry Accessories

The last time RIM made a change to the BlackBerry charger I had to buy a mini UBS to micro USB converter. Via CrackBerry we learn of a new change to the charger. No, you won’t need to get an adapter this time. In fact, the change is an adapter. Instead of a standalone wall charger, new BlackBerry models, starting with the Pearl 9100, will ship with an adapter that connects to your USB cable. It’s not a huge change, though certainly a welcome one. If nothing else, it will help me remember my USB cable.

In even better news, this will be available not only with new BlackBerry models, but also as an accessory for current BlackBerry users. There’s no word on pricing or release date, but this seems like a very useful accessory.

James,

seriously? How about you research for a bit before you bash Apple?

iPhone has shipped with this kind of adapter for a couple years now.

This used to come as a standard accessory with BlackBerry devices several years ago. Nice to see it’s back. Should have never gone away.

This is something every manufacturer should be doing. Hopefully Apple wises up and does the same. Though knowing them it’ll be released in 2 years redesigned somehow and call the idea their own.

In the UK my Bold (9000) was shipped with an adapter that connected to the USB cable and had exchangeable plugs for British, European and US wall sockets.

I already have something like this? Any USB device will plug in and charge as long as the AC is the same.
