If you own or are planning to buy an BB, then you MUST have some sort of protection for your long term investment in this handheld device.
The otterbox does not advertise waterproofing the phone, but it does a pretty good job.

Just acquired a Defender for my Curve 8900. Based upon some of the posts above (rants) seems like the the jury may still be out on otterbox. I can only address the one I just acquired, but will share this;
1) Slim light Curve 8900, is now more like a 10 lb bag phone from the 90's
2) Plastic Divider Bar (between trackball and screen) has made it much harder for me to scroll vertically.
3) Top and side buttons (volume, mute, etc) are almost impossible to engage without a surprisingly large amount of pressure applied.
4) The Phone case is incredibly hard to remove from the holster although I expect this will improve some with wear-in.

I have no doubt that the defender is completely capable of protecting my phone, however the useability has been so greatly reduced that I don't see the benefit.

In my opinion I just wasted $55 on some plastic. Based upon some of the modifications needed by other owners (posts above), I would guess that otterbox needs to go back to the drawing board.

I bought a defender case for my Storm, after I put the whole kit together I ripped off the cover over the USB port. I sent an email to Otter customer service clearly telling them it was entirely my fault and I didn't think their warrantee would cover it but I was looking for a solution and in less than a day there is a new cover on the way at no charge to me. I think if you have a problem with Otter's customer service your approach is wrong. These guys were great to me. I have no echo problems and I don't work for Otter (that seems to be the trend here, if your happy you work for/are related to someone who does) I would buy another one, and I would recomend all my friends get them. It is giant though.

Yes I have a ECHO. I have a 8900 bb phone has no echo without otterbox commuter vol turned all the way up in ear piece. Put on otterbox everybody on other end can hear their voice echoing. I turn vol down echo still there just not as loud open ports same problem. I take off plastic cover and leave on rubber they say it is better not sure if it goes completely away. The phone is two months old and otterbox is 5 days old really wish I would of done more research before i bought would of saved 40 dallors. I just emailed otterbox i'll see what kind of answer i get back.It's awkward how many people are having problems with otterbox cases. I am with viaero based out of Fort Collins Colorado. I called customer service for BB . The first thing I said was I have a echo on the other end of the phone they hear their own voice. The lady's reply was do you have a BB? I said yes question number two from customer service do you have a otterbox? I said yes. Her reply: I have to hold the phone a certain way or just take it off it will go away. This is how it all happened so far. I bought the otterbox from my provider you think if customer service knows this they would not sell them. It funny how otterbox is based out of Fort Collins Colorado. On the other side I do like the way the case looks and protects the phone, but I can not live with the echo.

Chris Gilbert, you have the social skills of a doorhandle. Its one thing to get your point across, but do it in the proper manner. and no, i dont work for otterbox.funny, my bberry 8350i, with the otterbox cover works just fine. Ive had it since March 09.
As for everyone else, mine works fine, not sure what to tell you.
