Pong BlackBerry Curve case can reduce radiation

Does cell phone radiation cause cancer? Scientists have debated this issue for years and have come to no consensus. Some studies try to show that it does cause cancer, while others try to show that it does not. Exercising caution is probably the best route for now, until scientists conduct more conclusive studies. With all this uncertainty, I’m sure BlackBerry users weren’t happy to hear last September that the BlackBerry Curve 8330 emits a high level of radiation, the fourth highest among popular handsets. For concerned BlackBerry users, Pong Research just announced a new case that claims to reduce radiation. I can’t vouch for the accuracy of these claims, but if you’re looking for peace of mind, you might want to check out this new case.

The case, which claims to reduce “hotspot” radiation by 85 percent and all radiation by 60 percent, works by redirecting the radiation. Without the case, radiation flows in both directions, both toward and away from your head. The Pong case has a module that redirects the signal, sending the radiation outward. While that sounds like it might reduce call quality or signal strength, the folks at Pong claim that your phone will maintain normal function. You can find out more about how the Pong BlackBerry Curve Case here.

If you’re skeptical about the true effects of the Pong case, you can check out a recent Wired magazine article on the subject. They were initially skeptical, but after seeing a test first hand they changed their view. “In other words, Pong’s claims seem to be legitimate: Its case reduces the amount of radiation going from the iPhone into your head to a third of what it would be without the case.” The case itself is a simple silicone skin, so it won’t take up much extra room.

If you’re interested in the Pong BlackBerry Curve case, you can get it for $49.95 at Pong’s website. The cases will start shipping in February.

The only people still paying attention to mobile phone radiation are companies trying to scam people out of some money. It’s not still up in the air (no pun intended) as far as real studies are concerned. If there is an effect, it’s too small to be measured. It’s not ionizing radiation anyway. That’s what scare mongers are counting on – the ignorance of the general public as to the meaning of the word radiation, which they still associate with 1950s monster movies. You’re not going to get cancer from cell phone emissions, because they are not energetic enough to damage chromosomes. TThe very most it will do is warm the surface of your skin a fraction of a degree.

If you want to buy this, go ahead. But don’t think you are actually protecting yourself from anything by doing so.

Logically speaking, studies do not try to show anything. If they did, they would not be “studies” but propaganda/i>. Studies look at evidence and then seek to understand what it tells us one way or the other.

Given that there is no evidence that mobiles emit dangerous radiation, aren’t those who manufacture and sell cases etc. “designed to reduce the radiation” simply trading on people’s fears which they themselves are helping to cultivate?
