We’re figuring to see a lot of these in the near future — heck, there are probably plenty of them already. We know that the BlackBerry 8800 series — as well as the new Pearls — have GPS capabilities. This is great for those of us who travel frequently by car. Just plug in your destination and get turn-by-turn directions. Ah, but where do you put the device in your car? You’ve got a few options, but unless you’ve got a cradle like the Carcomm one, you might be moving your head too often for safety on the road.
It has a few mounting options — swivel or gooseneck — so you can cater the cradle to your specific car. Just pop your BlackBerry into the cradle, plug in the charger, and let it go. It charges through — guess what — your cigarette lighter, though PocketGPSWorld notes that if you’re savvy in wiring, you can hook it up straight to an electrical current.
It’s easy enough to grab from the cradle, in case you get a phone call. However, we at BBGeeks certainly recommend that you answer calls via a hands-free headset, to maintain your safety on the road. That brings up another issue, though: texting. Though it’s not advertised, the Carcomm cradle can be set up to give you easy access to your keypad, thereby allowing you to pound out a few text messages and emails while you’re driving. Once again, not recommended.
So if you find yourself using the GPS function on your BlackBerry often, you might want to look into one of these car cradles. And it appears that Carcomm’s model does just fine.
